Yes, the site has been quiet. Development has been intense.

It has been quiet on the site I know. But that does not mean it has been quiet in the backrooms of Project Hack. There has been a lot going on for the new release and some of them are major. Which is a all good news by the way.

The new release will be dropping soon on pwitham.itch.io

New backend

I was not satisfied with everything I tried to make the database connection/host reliable and fast to update. So I changed it.

Now this has big consequences for you the player and my bank balance. It means we have to start over, but since the game is still in early development this hopefully is not a big surprise for anyone. I did say there would be server resets when needed as a last resort.

The other factor is I now pay for the backend system. And I’ll have to come up with a way to cover that cost to keep the game alive both during development and public release.

For now, the best way you can support my work on ProjectHack and all my other projects is to buy me coffee’s. Thanks to anyone that does that, you are truly appreciated.

I tried hard but free comes with a cost, and that was performance and reliability. Now the cloud save, PvP and leaderboards all work as I want them too with fast reliable responses.

Scripts need RAM

You have a starting amount of base RAM at 4gb. That is enough to run the sample script and any other hacking scripts, but the more you try to run the more ram you consume. So for now, you will be able to run one script without any upgrades. The complexity of a script also affects how much RAM is used.

Upgrades cost DarkWeb Coin, so get earning.

Players now have to register

Until now you only had to register to play the PvP mode. I have changed that so the cloud backup is always there, that means you can login on any device and continue where you left off. That’s the trade-off and I feel it is more than worth it.

I will not sell your data, I play this game more than anyone and I don’t want my email address going anywhere other than as a login for the game.

I’ll be adding support to delete your account very soon, so that will be an option should you wish to use it. There is no recovery, once you delete it will be gone forever.

UI Reworking

As I add new features, I am constantly evaluating what does and does not work on the UI. I will do my best to highlight changes both here on the blog and via the update log in the game.
