3 months work in 1

A lot of progress this month, player vs player is active.

This month has felt like three. So much work has taken place.

  • New research upgrades.
  • New bosses.
  • Player vs Player mode is now active.
  • Many changes under the hood to networking in an attempt to make it more stable and reliable.

Clearly the most stand out feature on the list is the Player vs Player mode. This has been a long time coming and the number one driver from the original game idea discussion going back years.

This game mode needs some discussion to explain how it works at these early stages.

Unlocks at level 10

I made the decision to unlock the Player vs Player mode at level 10 rather than level 1. This gives players a chance to get familiar with the basic structure of the game before they make the choice to activate PvP.

Limited engagement

Another consideration was how to make this fair and engaging. So I decided to limit both the upper and power level of players you can try to hack. This keeps the game better balanced on both sides and gives the other player a chance to hack back should they choose.

There is also a cool down period between each hack attempt to prevent spamming and harassment to a minimum.

Upgrades and research

There is a starting research item for players that enables upgrading firewalls to reduce the effectiveness of the other player’s hacks. This is just one of many upgrades that will become available as the game progresses.
